Amrabat's agent pushing him towards Liverpool - Di Marzio
Gianluca Di Marzio has told SoccerNews that Sofyan Amrabat‘s agents are pushing him towards Liverpool, while Antonio Conte is happy with Rodrigo Bentancur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Amrabat may well be one player who moves during the January transfer window. He has been superb for Fiorentina for some time. And he has now shone on the world stage, helping Morocco reach the World Cup semi-final.
He was labelled the most outstanding defensive midfielder in Qatar, with former Reds star Joe Cole suggesting that he had been ‘outstanding‘.
Amrabat’s agent pushing him towards Liverpool
A Premier League move may well be on the cards. Calciomercato recently suggested that Spurs want the 26-year-old, but Liverpool are also admirers of his.
He has been heavily linked with Tottenham, very nearly joining them during the previous January transfer window.
But it seems that Di Marzio would be more surprised to see Amrabat end up in North London. The journalist suggested that those working behind the scenes are trying to make sure that he moves to Anfield off the back of his World Cup performances.
“He has all the characteristics he needs to play under Anonio Conte. But at the moment they are very happy with Bentancur, and he plays in the same position,” he told Soccer News.
“But I think Amrabat’s agency, Stellar, will try to place him with Liverpool in the Premier League. Everyone sees something in that, it would be the dream of the agency, but also that of the player in question. And Klopp wants to sign a new central midfielder… Talks have been made, but no official steps have been taken yet.”
Reds certainly need more in midfield
Amrabat would certainly be a welcome addition for Jurgen Klopp’s men. The midfield has been the Reds’ Achilles heel for some time now. And the summer signing of Arthur Melo is yet to pay off.
It does appear that the Reds need to overhaul their options in the middle of the park in the near future. And signing Amrabat would seemingly be a step in the right direction given his recent form.
The downside, of course, is that Fiorentina will surely hike the price up off the back of the World Cup. Di Marzio has suggested that he could now cost £40 million.
But it is a positive for Liverpool that his representatives are keen to pursue a move to Merseyside.
