Roberto Carlos has lavished praise on Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Tottenham talisman Harry Kane.
Both men were named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2022 World Cup, where Kane will again captain the team.
Alexander-Arnold has had a bumpy ride with England but Reece James’ absence and Kyle Walker’s fitness issues meant he was a shoo-in.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Carlos was asked which England players are capable of playing for Brazil and he reeled off both men.

Carlos on Alexander-Arnold and Kane
On Alexander-Arnold, he said: “He has to be there – because he’s among the best ones.
“Kane is a good player too. You have a good team, not just in terms of names but in terms of players who have trained well and are ready to play at a World Cup – or to play for the Brazilian national team.
“I’d say those two [Kane and Alexander-Arnold], but there are more.
“There’s a lot of quality [in the team]. You have a lot of quality.”
Alexander-Arnold is still in a battle with Kieran Trippier for the England right-back spot and it seems the Newcastle man is trusted more than his Liverpool rival.
In September, Southgate said: “Kieran, at the moment, I feel his all-round game is ahead [of Alexander-Arnold].”
That shows that Alexander-Arnold may be up against it at the World Cup, but Trippier is seemingly also Luke Shaw’s deputy and they could both play in the same team as full-backs on opposite sides.
