Amid reports of Leeds bid, £12.9m player has now been dropped from squad by his manager
Throughout the summer, Hertha Berlin forward Matheus Cunha has been strongly associated with a move to Leeds.
What’s the story?
Well, it was said that Victor Orta had even submitted a bid for the 22-year-old.
Despite that offer, Hertha Berlin boss Pal Dardai revealed that he thinks the €15m (£12.9m) attacker will stay with the Bundesliga outfit.
7 Football Legends: What Would They Be Worth In 2021?
Now, however, there has been a twist.
Cunha – who won a gold medal at the Olympic Games this summer – has been dropped from the squad to face VfL Wolfsburg today.
Interestingly, Sky Germany have come out and stated that his absence is for transfer reasons, rather than any injury issues.
What would Leeds be getting in Matheus Cunha?
If Cunha does arrive at Elland Road, it would be a fantastic signing.
The South American has been likened to Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino, a comparison which in itself offers plenty of encouragement.
After all, Liverpool’s No.9 is a Premier League and Champions League winner with 145 career goals, so he’s not a bad person to be compared to.
Cunha scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 28 appearances last season, and is capable of operating in various positions across the frontline.
Keep an eye on this saga.
It will be extremely intriguing to see specifically why Cunha has been left out of the squad – he could well be on his way to Yorkshire.
