Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Pedro Neto has described breaking a record held by Cristiano Ronaldo as an “amazing feeling”, The Sun reports. Neto scored on his debut for Braga and became the youngest-ever goalscorer in Portugal.

He was aged just 17 years and 67 days at the time. This broke a record held by Portugal legend Ronaldo for around 15 years. Ronaldo was 17 years and 252 days when he scored his first goal in the Portuguese league.

Discussing this record, Neto told The Sun: “It was an amazing feeling because Braga were a club that had helped me so much. So to score for them on my debut was special.

“But I didn’t just become the youngest goalscorer in Braga’s history, I also broke the Portuguese record, taking it off Cristiano Ronaldo! It was such a good feeling to take that record from such a famous player — one which had stood for 15 years.”

Neto joined Wolves from Braga this summer, having spent time with Lazio on loan. The 19-year-old has already played nine times for Wolves and scored once. There are high hopes for his future at Molineux.

TBR’s view

Neto was initially brought in as one for the future but he is already showing his class. The teenager has a lot of potential, operating in any of the attacking positions in Nuno Espirito Santo’s system.

Breaking Ronaldo’s record puts some pressure under Neto to fulfil his potential. Wolves looks like the best environment for him at the moment and he is making an early impression.
