‘Amazing’: BBC pundit left stunned by what £12m Tottenham player did at the World Cup today

Dion Dublin was left stunned by what Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris did at the World Cup today on BBC’s coverage of France vs Poland

Lloris has been ever present between the sticks for Spurs ever since he completed a £12 million switch from Lyon back in 2013.

The 35-year-old is currently the captain of Tottenham and is also leading France out at the World Cup as skipper.

Didier Deschamps’ side faced off against Poland in the last-16 of the tournament today and Lloris produced a brilliant save in the first-half.

Piotr Zielinski was presented with a golden opportunity in the 37th minute of the game but Lloris was equal to his effort. And Dublish was full of praise for the Spurs man on BBC today.

Dublin stunned by Lloris

“You know what? It’s an amazing save. Lloris just stood firm and big and strong. He made sure that ball wasn’t going past him,” Dublin told BBC while co-commentating on the game

“Zielinski does everything right, he just puts his laces through it. He struck that one absolutely perfect. Lloris did anything that’s going to work – brilliant save.”

Zielinski will be kicking himself after missing a massive chance but Lloris displayed once again that he is still an elite shot stopper.

France also went on to take the lead right before half-time as Olivier Giroud produced a cool finish.

Lloris is still France’s number one, despite suggestions that he could soon be replaced in Deschamps’ side. And the Spurs man proved exactly why he remains an important part of France’s World Cup hopes.

A Kylian Mbappe brace secured France’s place in the quarter-finals and they could be set to face England, if Gareth Southgate’s men manage to beat Senegal this evening.

Tottenham will probably be on the lookout for Lloris’ successor over the coming transfer windows and have been linked with moves for Jordan Pickford, Robert Sanchez and Illan Meslier.

But for now, Lloris is showing that he is capable of doing more than just a job between the sticks for both club and country.
