Newcastle United have confirmed the arrival of Eddie Howe on their website, signing a deal until 2024 – and Amanda Staveley has reacted.

Howe, 43, is said to have penned a deal until the summer of 2024 – 18 months after last being in a job. He left Bournemouth after 2019-20.

There has been plenty of talk over Newcastle’s next manager. Sacking Steve Bruce, Newcastle wanted to bring in Unai Emery – before public rejection.

Since then, it was believed that Howe would be taking over. On Saturday evening, he sat next to Amanda Staveley – as The Toon drew with Brighton.

He now has the international break to work with the players, before Newcastle play host to newly-promoted Brentford – who are struggling.

Speaking after the appointment of Howe, co-owner Staveley – who has a 10% stake but appears to be the face of the consortium – gave her reaction.

“We have been incredibly impressed by Eddie through what has been a rigorous recruitment process,” Staveley said.

“As well as his obvious achievements with AFC Bournemouth, where he had a transformational impact, he is a passionate and dynamic coach.

“He has clear ideas about taking this team and club forward. He is a great fit for what we are trying to build here.

“We are delighted to welcome Eddie and his staff to St. James’ Park and very much look forward to working together towards our collective ambitions.”

Staveley on Howe: What is first to do for Newcastle gaffer?

Many have suggested the appointment is not going to work. But many are forgetting the work of Howe at Bournemouth, keeping them in the top tier.

He kept them in the Premier League for four years before relegation in his fifth season. Howe has the CV for the job, his man management is ideal.

Yes, his transfers have been criticised, but Newcastle will appoint a director of football – Michael Emenalo now reportedly the leading candidate.

Firstly, he must install a more attacking, exciting brand of football to win fans over. The positivity must be re-installed and Howe can do that.
