‘Always tell us’: Gabriel Martinelli shares what Arteta’s always telling him to do when Arsenal attack
Gabriel Martinelli has lifted the lid on some tactical instructions from Mikel Arteta which led to Arsenal’s third goal against Tottenham.
Granit Xhaka made the game safe after Spurs had been reduced to ten men when Emerson Royal did not get anywhere near the ball when challenging Martinelli.
Arsenal had been dominant for much of the game before that and were good value for their victory, with Martinelli among those to impress.
In an interview with the Times, Martinelli gave some insight into the goal which sent the Gunners fans into raptures.

Martinelli on Arteta instructions
“This is a move I do mostly with [Oleksandr Zinchenko],” Martinelli said.
“Arteta always tells us that when a full back comes into a wider position, Xhaka should attack his opponent’s back, and I would have to find the right moment to roll inside.
“I did it several times against Crystal Palace [Arsenal won 2-0 on the opening day of the season]. Zina gets the ball wide, Xhaka attacks someone’s back and I carry the ball to the inside.
“Now it just happened the same way with Thomas [Partey]. It shows that we are well aligned with our match plan.”
On the back of that win which kept them top of the Premier League, Arsenal are in European action tonight against Bodo/Glimt.
Martinelli may get the night off with Arteta expected to make changes and give the likes of Reiss Nelson an opportunity to impress.
Then, next up in the league are Champions League finalists Liverpool in a match which gives Arsenal another opportunity to make a huge statement.
