Almiron ‘very happy’ at Newcastle after reportedly ‘agitating’ for summer transfer last year

Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron has insisted he is happy at the club despite rumours that the winger was open to leaving the club.

In an interview with Sky Sports News, the Paraguayan international revealed his joy at playing for Newcastle, with the former Atlanta United star being linked with a move away from the Magpies earlier in the season, with 90min claiming that Almiron was ‘agitating’ for a transfer away in last summer’s transfer window.

Almiron has had a mixed season with Newcastle this campaign, with the South American wide-payer scoring four goals and assisting another in 29 Premier League appearances this season, and although the Toon have endured a tough year, the 27-year-old has insisted he is happy with the Premier League club, and that he is adapted well to life in the northeast.

The attacker said: “Right now, I have to keep on working hard in order to improve, but I’m very happy here in Newcastle. The truth is that when the gaffer [Steve Bruce] speaks English during training to the group, I understand him and the instructions he’s getting across. But having Javier Manquillo, Federico Fernandez and Joelinton as team-mates certainly helps.”

TBR View: Newcastle can’t allow Almiron to walk this summer

Almiron’s comments will be music to the ears of Newcastle fans everywhere, with the attacker becoming a firm fan favourite since joining from MLS in the winter of 2019, and the Toon have to ensure that the Paraguayan international doesn’t leave this summer if they want to survive in the Premier League next season.

It is likely that Steve Bruce will still be around for the 2021/22 campaign for Newcastle, and in Almiron, the Magpies boss has a player who can change a game on its head in an instant, and that quality will be vital for the club if they are to confirm Premier League safety next year.
