Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron has been ruled out until the end of the season, the club have confirmed.
The Paraguayan attacker left the action against Southampton in tears on Saturday evening, and it was later determined he had suffered a hamstring injury.
The January club-record signing from Atlanta United has been a hit with the Magpies faithful since joining the club for his vibrant style and technical quality.
He is yet to score for the club, but the team are undoubtedly improved in the attacking phase.
He will therefore be a miss for Newcastle, even though the Toon Army will not be relegated from the Premier League this year.
That said, a top half finish is still on and Almiron might well have inspired a surge up the table.
Almiron’s injury could potentially provide a window of opporunity for Christian Atsu to come back into the side.
The Ghana international was the man to make way for Almiron after he signed, but he may now have the chance to prove some people wrong.
A number of fans are still not convinced by the former Chelsea winger, who was signed in 2017 permanently for £6.2 million (The Daily Mail).
His stats do not make for particularly encouraging reading; in 29 appearances, he is yet to score or assist.
He could well be in the last-chance saloon, and must take any opportunity with both hands if he is the man chosen to replace Almiron.
