Newcastle United transfer target Miguel Almiron could be a breath of fresh air at the club.
As reported by The Sun, the Magpies are lining up the Atlanta United midfielder to become one of their first captures in next month’s transfer window.
What’s allegedly been discussed so far is an initial loan move for the player, following by a £15 million transfer fee.
Head of recruitment Steve Nickson has been in the States negotiating with the player’s agent and the club.
The move would need sanctioning by owner Mike Ashley though, which automatically makes things a bit more complicated given his lack of investment over the years.
£15 million is a rather big sum by Newcastle’s usual standards, but they’d certainly be getting a player.
Almiron the next Ben Arfa?
Almiron is a player that gets people off their feet with the way he plays.
The Paraguayan forward does things at pace and with panache.
He is quite reminiscent of former Magpie Hatem Ben Arfa, who regularly wowed crowds at St. James’ Park with his flair and mazy dribbling.
Ben Arfa spent five seasons at Newcastle and garnered a reputation for being the man who could turn the game in the blink of an eye – if he wanted to.
Since he left the club in 2015, Newcastle haven’t really seen a player like him.
Florian Thauvin is ripping it up for Marseille these days but he couldn’t get going during his short stint at the club.
Almiron really does have the potential to bring back that wow factor to St. James’ – they just need to get the deal over the line when the time comes.
