Almiron and Joelinton have potential to banish the ghosts of Rondon and Perez

Newcastle United fans are still reeling from some high profile departures this summer.

The biggest loss of all was undoubtedly Rafa Benitez, who couldn’t come to an agreement with owner Mike Ashley and is now in charge of Chinese club Dalian Yifang.

In his place as manager is Steve Bruce, who is tasked with continuing the Spaniard’s fine work at St. James’ Park.

Benitez was followed out the door by Ayoze Perez, who had his best season to date in 2018/19.

The 26-year-old hit 13 goals, which helped him earn a £30 million move to Leicester City (BBC Sport).

Rondon also hit 13 goals, and has now reunited with Benitez in the Far East.

Newcastle may seemingly be damaged by losing two key players, but there is potential for fans to forget all about the pair as there is now a new duo in town.

Paraguay international Almiron was just finding his feet in the second half of 2018/19, but he showed glimpses of his superb technical ability that is surely going to help Joelinton flourish.

The former Hoffenheim ace is very similar to Rondon but is arguably more mobile and better at coming short for the ball to make things happen.

Against Hibernian on Tuesday night the pair offered a glimpse into the potential link-up play they will enjoy together in 2019/20. Perez and Rondon were crowd favourites, but the South Americans could quickly achieve the same status.
