Rangers legend Ally McCoist has pleaded for his former side to have a “massive summer” when it comes to recruitment.
The ex-striker believes that the Light Blues have to make at least three significant signings if they are to enjoy a successful season next year.
Steven Gerrard’s first year in charge at Ibrox is drawing to a close and it has ended without a trophy, after two disappointing exits in domestic cup competitions at the hands of Aberdeen.
The Gers have also fallen short of title-winning rivals Celtic in the league, who they are nine points behind and face at the weekend.
Rangers have looked dazzling at times this campaign and ended up second in the league, but consistency has been an issue and it’s been a learning curve for Gerrard during his first campaign of senior management.
McCoist is pleased with the impact of Gerrard, but feels he needs more help to overtake Celtic.
“Massive summer coming up for Rangers and Celtic. I think Rangers are exactly where I thought they would be, close the gap to Celtic,” McCoist said on The Debate, as quoted by Sky Sports’ Scotland Twitter account.
“I think Steven should be fairly happy with the first season, but it’s a massive summer coming up in terms of transfer window. Got to strengthen again and I think they need a minimum of three players to strengthen again to make it a real challenge for Celtic next season.”

TBR’s View:
Rangers were hectic in the transfer market last summer, with some deals paying off and others falling short of the mark.
They need quality of quantity when it comes to the next transfer window and a few key additions could make them major contenders next year.
Gerrard’s team have just fallen short of the mark, but have a core group of players that are capable of winning silverware in Scotland and they should be better next year.
The Rangers boss has shown he’s got an appeal factor when it comes to attracting players and it will be intriguing to see who he can tempt to join him next season.
