Ally McCoist has told TalkSPORT (Thursday, 7.27am) that Rangers have got to complete the signing of free agent Jack Wilshere after the midfielder was released by West Ham United on deadline day – stating Rangers need some midfield steel.
Wilshere, 28, was released by the Hammers on Monday after a difficult spell in east London where he managed to play just 19 times in all competitions during a two-year spell. Rumours are suggesting he could move to Rangers.
The midfielder – who shares the same agent as Connor Goldson and Jermain Defoe (TransferMarkt) – confirmed he had left West Ham with a statement on Twitter, stating he felt hard done by given that he has been fit for the past six months.
Certainly, the former Arsenal man played alongside Rangers boss Steven Gerrard for England on occasion and now the duo could form a reunion at Ibrox this summer. Rangers legend McCoist responded when asked if he would like Wilshere at Ibrox.
“Oh aye,” McCoist said, when asked. “Do you know something, for the lad himself – and he has been fit for six months now. He’s just got to get back playing. Joe Cole said America and I get that, but I just feel – surely – he has got far too much offer.
“I would love him at Ibrox. He’s a terrific little footballer. Rangers need a bit of steel in midfield. If you’ve got that opportunity to sign him, you cant let that go by.”
