Rangers legend Ally McCoist has told BT Sport that he is surprised the Light Blues didn’t move for Lyndon Dykes during January.

The Livingston hitman registered his 10th assist of the season last night as they held Celtic to a 2-2 draw.

He has netted 12 times this season and the big talisman is capable of causing all sorts of problems for defenders.

McCoist knows all about scoring goals for Rangers and he stated his surprise at the Gers not moving for the talisman.

He told BT Sport: “I like him. I think he’s aggressive and I think he’s quick.

“Am I surprised more teams didn’t try and get him in January? Very surprised.

“In fact to be honest with you, I’m really surprised my old team Rangers didn’t go in for him.

“I was actually staggered that nobody took a punt on him.”

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard signing Florian Kamberi from Hibernian instead and he has made a slow start to life at Ibrox.

The 24-year-old has scored just once in seven games and will largely play second fiddle behind Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers saw their title aspirations take a further hit last night after losing 1-0 to Hamilton.

Celtic were held to a 2-2 draw by Dykes and his Livingston team-mates and Rangers could have closed the gap.

Confidence

He must revive the team’s fortunes and get confidence high ahead of two massive Europa League games against Bayer Leverkusen.

Rangers haven’t become a bad side overnight and perhaps they need to go back to basics.

McCoist could be right. Maybe Rangers should have tried to sign Dykes in the January window.

He is big, strong and might have been the different option in the attack that Rangers are lacking.
