Ally McCoist says Liverpool superstar did something ‘magical’ against Everton, he can’t believe it

Liverpool got off to a dream start against Everton and didn’t look back at a raucous Anfield.

Ryan Gravenberch put the champions in front inside the opening 10 minutes after meeting Mohamed Salah’s superb floated ball, before Hugo Ekitike doubled their lead in style.

Arne Slot’s side have looked unstoppable so far this season, winning all of their opening matches in the Premier League and beating Atletico Madrid 3-2 in their Champions League opener.

They are showing signs of clicking into top gear at exactly the right time, and Ally McCoist was left in disbelief by the quality of Liverpool’s first goal against their Merseyside rivals.

Ally McCoist says Ryan Gravenberch goal was ‘magical’

Reacting to the stunning breakthrough against Everton on TNT Sports, McCoist said: “My goodness, what a goal. I can’t tell you how difficult that technique is.

“The ball was coming across, not with a lot of pace, and he just meets it on the half-volley and keeps it low.

“It’s an absolutely tremendous goal. You’ve got to watch this. This is absolutely magical.”

McCoist was right to wax lyrical about the finish, with Gravenberch having timed his run into the penalty area to perfection before taking down Salah’s pass and tucking beyond Jordan Pickford.

Then, on the cusp of the half-hour mark, Gravenberch played through Hugo Ekitike to finish with aplomb.

They were moments that proved that Liverpool are once again rightly the hot favourites in the title race.

Ryan Gravenberch responds to Peter Crouch challenge

Ahead of kick-off, Peter Crouch has urged Gravenberch to break the lines more and chip in with more goals in order to become one of the best midfielders in the world.

“It’s so nice to watch. The strength as well… I feel like he’s got everything,” said Crouch.

“If he continues in this vein, carries on playing the way he plays and Liverpool win things, you’ve got a player there who’s gonna win player of the year awards. He’s that good. He’s on his way to being one of the best, if not the best, midfielders in the league.

“He’s just got to find that consistency, some of the attributes and the way he breaks lines by just running at people through the centre of the pitch, he can pick a pass… if he adds goals to his game, he’s got absolutely everything as a midfielder.”

It’s fair to say Gravenberch responded quite brilliantly to the challenge.
