Liverpool forward Diogo Jota was praised by Ally McCoist for his efforts in the Premier League win over Chelsea at Anfield.

The Reds attacker was truly “terrific” for Jurgen Klopp’s side and “sharp as a tack”, according to the TNT Sports pundit.

Liverpool hosted Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday night in a hugely-anticipated fixture between two giants of English football.

However, it ended up being a fairly one-sided affair, with the Reds running riot against the Blues en route to a 4-1 victory.

Jota opened the scoring for Liverpool following a quick break in the 23rd minute of the match.

The impressive Conor Bradley threaded the ball through to him and he got past two Chelsea defenders to bundle home.

Jota also played a part in Liverpool’s second, as well as the first-half penalty which Darwin Nunez missed.

For the second, Ben Chilwell marked the £40million man and forgot to cover Bradley, who found the far corner with a superb strike.

And for the penalty, Jota was brought down by Benoit Badiashile in the box, leading to a spot kick that Nunez fired against the post.

McCoist loved what he saw, telling TNT Sports (as transcribed by BBC Sport): “He has been terrific. He really has. He is sharp as a tack.”

Liverpool rampant against hapless Chelsea

Liverpool added a third in the 65th minute, Bradley once again impressing with an assist as he crossed for Dominik Szoboszlai to head home.

Jota was substituted three minutes later, applying some ice to his thigh, according to Sky Sports News.

Although Chelsea pulled one back in the 70th minute through Christopher Nkunku, Liverpool soon restored their three-goal lead.

In the 79th minute, Nunez got the better of Thiago Silva before squaring for Luis Diaz to power a simple finish at the far post.

All in all, a great day (well, night, to be precise) at the office for Liverpool, who go five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
