Ally McCoist says he fully expects Alfredo Morelos to leave Rangers this summer

Ally McCoist has told BT Sport that he expects Alfredo Morelos to leave Rangers in the summer if an acceptable offer is tabled for the Colombia international, after the striker was disciplined by Steven Gerrard last week.

Morelos, 23, was left out of the Scottish Cup defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle after he returned late from compassionate leave. The former HJK Helsinki star has since apologised in a lengthy statement on Twitter, while Morelos started on Wednesday night.

Steven Gerrard was left in despair after the defeat to Hearts, and claimed he was feeling even worse after a 1-0 league defeat to Hamilton at Ibrox on Wednesday – a match in which Morelos played. Rangers now sit 13 points behind Celtic.

Rangers legend McCoist believes Morelos will leave the club in the summer if a decent offer comes in for the striker, with Morelos scoring 29 goals in 44 games – as well as laying on 10 assists. He also reckons Rangers fans have turned on Morelos.

“I think if the correct offer comes in, he’ll definitely be away. I’d have to look at the replacement, because make no mistake about it, you don’t want to cut your nose off to spite your face. You would have to see what he gives you. Rangers fans have registered a disappointment with Morelos,” McCoist said.

TBR’s view – What is an acceptable fee for Morelos?

Morelos has netted an extroadinary amount of goals and his drop in form of late has coincided with Rangers’ dismal return to competitive football after the break. So, what is an acceptable fee for a striker Gerrard would not sell in January for £50million?

Celtic sold Moussa Dembele for £20million to Lyon in the summer of 2018. So, if Rangers are using that as a template, then surely The Gers can charge at least £25million for Morelos – given he has scored more goals than Dembele did at Celtic?

His discipline, though, could affect a fee.
