“When he came to the club, and even at Dundee, you can see he has been well-schooled. He has had a good upbringing, a good education.

McCoist on Kamara: Rangers star crucial to Gerrard’s side

Very much like Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, Gerrard has got Rangers playing with a hard-working midfield and overlapping full-backs.

It means that like Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum – before he left – Curtis Jones, James Milner, Rangers need hard-working midfielders.

Midfielders that have plenty of ball-playing attributes, but are willing to run over 10 kilometres in a match. Kamara is the perfect example at Rangers.

Clearly, he is excellent at Rangers and renowned for his ball-playing ability. But it is his work rate and fitness that makes him crucial to the Ibrox side.

While Kamara is still likely to have admirers from down south, handing him a new contract makes sense. It means Rangers can charge full price.
