'Brilliant': Ally McCoist raves about Tottenham player's crossing, says he's simply 'got to play' now
Ally McCoist has told TalkSPORT that Tottenham striker Harry Kane has simply got to keep starting for England. The talisman has failed to find the net in the group stages but has now registered three assists at this year’s edition of the World Cup.
Some England fans simply love to slate Kane. If he’s not scoring hat-tricks left, right and centre, some of his critics suggest he’s not doing his job. But, people need to take stock of what else is offering when he’s called upon by Gareth Southgate.
No player at this World Cup has now registered more assists than Kane. The 29-year-old has set three goals up for his teammates in Qatar and his ability to drop deeper makes him one of the best forward players in world football right now.
McCoist has recognised that trait. He believes that supporters are wrong to be demanding that his place comes into jeopardy and believes he’s the best crosser of the ball in the England team.
The World Cup co-commentator told TalkSPORT: “He’s got to play. He’s got three assists and I tell you what he is right now, he’s the best crosser of the ball in the England team.
“His ball for Foden was brilliant, his ball for Sterling in the first game was brilliant. He could do with a goal in an ideal world but it’s fine.
“I like Callum Wilson, I’m a big fan of him but I wouldn’t play him and I wouldn’t be playing Rashford through the middle. He was brilliant out wide last night.”
McCoist says Kane has to start
Anyone suggesting that Kane shouldn’t be starting for England needs to give their head a shake. It’s an absurd call and to consider dropping the captain at this stage of the tournament would make zero sense.
Kane has been exceptional, despite not scoring a goal at the World Cup so far. His work rate has been good and he’s always showing for the ball whether it be through the middle or in the wide areas.
The Tottenham man is a player that England are very fortunate to have. He’s the country’s talisman and his critics should get any notion of him being dropped out of their minds.
McCoist is the people’s pundit. He rarely comes out with a bad take and once again he’s hit the nail on the head with regards to the form of Tottenham man Kane.
