Ally McCoist reacts to report Newcastle are keen to sign Conor Gallagher

Ally McCoist has told talkSPORT that Conor Gallagher would be a perfect signing for Newcastle United amid reports that the Magpies are keen on the Chelsea midfielder.

The Blues are enduring a nightmare season and are languishing in mid-table. But their struggles have presented Gallagher with an opportunity. The 22-year-old has featured in all but two of their Premier League games so far this season.

But it would appear that Chelsea face a battle to keep the youngster. The Telegraph reports that Newcastle want the England international. They are also admirers of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Hakim Ziyech.

McCoist says Gallagher would be perfect for Newcastle

The report claims that Chelsea are open to letting Ziyech leave this month. But they are hoping to keep both Gallagher and Loftus-Cheek. So Newcastle have their work cut out.

But McCoist feels that Gallagher would be a brilliant signing if a deal was possible.

“Conor Gallagher’s the kind of player I think that Newcastle would be going for. Young, hungry, that would make a signing,” he told talkSPORT.

“The way he plays the game, the Newcastle fans would take to him. He’s high energy, great effort. Perfect.”

Gallagher has won some praise for his work-rate in the Chelsea side this season. But it was during his time at Crystal Palace where he really established himself as a Premier League player to keep an eye on.

He scored eight goals and provided five assists during his time on loan with the Eagles.

Newcastle are flying right now. They are inside the top-four in the Premier League. And they have only lost one league game all season.

Adding Gallagher to the ranks would be a really smart move. He looks to have the perfect attitude for Eddie Howe’s brand of football and what he is building on Tyneside.

Clearly, Chelsea do not want to lose Gallagher. So it would be a real statement of intent if Newcastle could bring him to St James’ Park in this window.
