After a frantic weekend of football, Ally McCoist has now been discussing the title race between Arsenal and Manchester City.

McCoist was speaking on talkSPORT this morning and started by heaping some praise on Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.

However, that talk sparked the possibility of Arsenal pipping Man City to the title this season, something McCoist wasn’t quite sure about.

Speaking to Jeff Stelling, McCoist also thought Liverpool were capable of winning the league.

He said: “Interesting, just reading the paper before we came on, Saka at 22 is about to make his 200th appearance. Amazing isn’t it?”

Stelling replied: “Incredible!”

McCoist: “He’s another one, fantastic player. Could they win it? Of course, they could. Could Liverpool win it? Of course, they could.

“I think the majority of people will think the winner will come from those three clubs, Arsenal, Liverpool and [Manchester] City.

“I’d still have City as my favourites but like we said yesterday, I just think the league is absolutely top-class.”

Of course, given the events of last year, Arsenal fans won’t be getting too carried away at this stage.

When comparing the situation to last year’s failure, Arsenal fans will now look at the arrival of Declan Rice.

Although they have perhaps been a little less exciting moving forwards, Arsenal have an added steel this season.

Mikel Arteta looks to have made a very clever decision adding Rice to his spine, a player who is evidently ready to win titles.

And although some creativity has been lost, that’s not as a result of the £105m midfielder arriving.

Rice has contributed brilliantly to attacks, and his versatility has allowed Arteta to explore changes in his set up.

On the other hand, Pep Guardiola has developed a squad that is so used to winning – one that can overcome the toughest games without exerting too much emotion.

That seemed to be the difference last season, one in which Arsenal eventually ran out of steam.

So whilst McCoist is right to hold City as title favourites, Arsenal may be able to take them all the way this season.

That being said, McCoist has actually been disagreeing with one opinion he’s heard regarding Declan Rice today.
