Ally McCoist predicts Leeds to lose in the play-off final

Ally McCoist believes that Leeds United are going to fall just short in their attempts to win the play-offs over the next couple of weeks.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team are about to embark on the play-offs, with a two-legged semi-final with Derby County starting at the weekend.

The Whites finished third in the league during the season to narrowly miss out on automatic promotion and now face Derby for a spot in the final at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Midlands rivals West Brom and Aston Villa will clash in the other semi-final after finishing in the top six.

Ex-Scotland international McCoist feels that Villa may be the victors that end up in the Premier League next season, with Leeds to lose out in the final.

“I think Villa might just have it. The team that finishes third has the greatest ratio of being promoted,” McCoist told talkSPORT.

“I actually think the momentum swing has gone away from Leeds. I think they could beat Derby, but don’t think they will beat the winner of the other game.”

TBR’s View:

Leeds are the team going into the play-offs out of form, but over the course of the season have outperformed their play-off rivals and have the quality within their ranks to raise their game once again.

Bielsa’s team have potentially three vital games ahead of them and are desperate to be in the top flight next season.

They should be confident of overcoming Derby, who they managed to beat in both league meetings throughout the campaign.

The Wembley final is normally a case of who keeps their bottle and Bielsa seems the type of manager who will thrive off the immense pressure.
