After a weekend of excellent results for Arsenal’s title charge, Ally McCoist has now been discussing the prospect of a league win.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side have set themselves extremely high standards this season as they hope to get one better than last.

And despite controversial away defeats to both Newcastle United and Aston Villa, Arsenal do still sit top of the league.

Moreover, heading further into the busy festive period, and towards a trip to Anfield, Ally McCoist has now delivered his verdict on a potential Premier League trophy.

McCoist was speaking on talkSPORT today and thought Arsenal did have a solid title chance.

He said: “They’ve got a chance, of course they’ve got a chance.

“I’m not sure I’d go as far as saying they’ll never have a better chance but I definitely think they’ve got a proper chance.

“I still think out of all of the teams looking at them, I think when City are at full strength, they’re the ones that are capable of going on a run, and by run I mean 14, 15 games where they could win the majority if not all of them.

“That said, how open is it at the moment Jeff, it’s brilliant. I mean it’s an absolutely fantastic league.”

Ally McCoist thinks Arsenal have an excellent opportunity to win the title this season

Of course, many staff and players at Arsenal would probably agree with a lot of what McCoist said.

Manchester City have to remain favourites all of the time they are within touching distance – they’ve just done it too many times before.

But with the additions of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz this season, Arsenal will hope they can sustain a title push for the whole season.

Perhaps Arsenal’s title chances do still hinge on the fitness of some key players such as William Saliba – as they do for many teams.

However, with a stronger squad as a whole, Mikel Arteta’s men are better equipped to cope with any absences.

That being said, McCoist may even soon be discussing Arsenal’s hopes of winning a Champions League title.

Without getting carried away, Arsenal fans will be buoyed by a draw against FC Porto, one that could have been a lot worse.

And perhaps it may now be a very good idea for Arsenal to target one £65m Porto player before the team’s square off.
