Rangers legend Ally McCoist believes that Ryan Kent is the one player Steven Gerrard’s side can’t sell this summer despite links of a move to the Premier League.

Speaking to the Daily Record, the former striker claimed that Rangers can sell anyone in their squad this transfer window, but keeping hold of Kent at all costs must be a priority for the Scottish Premiership champions, with the winger being one of the club’s top performers this season.

The Liverpool academy graduate has been a consistent performer for the Gers this campaign, playing 50 games in all competitions under Gerrard and scoring 12 goals and assisting 14, and this form has attracted interest from Leeds United, with the Scottish Sun reporting that they will target Kent in the summer transfer window, but for McCoist, Rangers must do all they can to keep the 24-year-old.

The former Scotland international said: “They can sell anyone but Kent. He is the one player who gives you something different. He opens up the game. Listen, I don’t know the finances now. I’m hearing they might have to sell somebody and all of that type of stuff, which is understandable because business is business.

“So, if Rangers do have to balance the books a little bit, I totally understand it. From how I’m looking at it, it could well be Kent because his form has been fantastic. But I just think he is the one player who is different in that squad.”

TBR View: Rangers can’t afford to lose Kent despite other key members in squad

Kent has continued to blossom for Rangers since joining the Scottish giants on a permanent deal in 2019, and his form this season has made the former Liverpool attacker a key clog of Gerrard’s best XI and a player that the club simply can’t afford to sell with UEFA Champions League football to play for next year.

The 24-year-old winger’s stats speak for themselves, with the attacker consistently performing both domestically and on the continent, and although Rangers will likely be approached with big-money offers for Kent, the club needs to fend off interest at all costs if they are to stand a fighting chance of surprising in Europe as well as retaining the Scottish league title.
