Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes earned praise from Ally McCoist during the Magpies’ FA Cup win over Sunderland.
McCoist, speaking on ITV Sport – as transcribed by BBC Sport – said the Newcastle star is a “really creative” player who’s also really good defensively.
Bruno delivered a great performance as Eddie Howe’s Magpies made light work of their bitter rivals at the Stadium of Light.
Newcastle were in poor form going into the game, while Sunderland were unbeaten in their last three. As a result, some Black Cats fans were hopeful of an upset.
However, the Magpies barely broke a sweat in one of the most one-sided Tyne-Wear derbies in recent years.

Newcastle boasted 64 percent possession, had four shots on target and weighed in with five corners against their rivals.
The Magpies got on the scoresheet thanks to a Daniel Ballard own goal, a Pierre Ekwah howler, and a penalty conceded by Ballard.
That said, Newcastle’s players did work hard for their victory, and there were plenty of superb individual performances.
Newcastle have a ‘fantastic’ player in Bruno Guimaraes
For instance, Bruno was calm and composed throughout, dictated the tempo of the game, and helped out at both ends of the pitch.
In the second half, the 26-year-old weighed in with a tackle on Alex Pritchard, getting the ball but also the man, and it resulted in a booking for the Newcastle man.
“Guimaraes is a very creative player but he doesn’t half do well defensively,” McCoist said shortly after the tackle.
Later on, McCoist said: “Guimaraes and (Miguel) Almiron might be the two best players on the pitch this afternoon. The two of them have been fantastic.”
All in all, a great day at the office for Newcastle, who secure bragging rights over their bitter rivals.
Also, we’ve seen another superb outing for Bruno, a player surely on his way to becoming a Toon legend.
