Ally McCoist gives Newcastle takeover verdict, has sympathy for Steve Bruce

Ally McCoist has given a brief verdict on Newcastle’s reportedly imminent takeover on TalkSPORT (Thursday, 7.45AM) – and discussed Steve Bruce.

Reports have emerged regarding a takeover of Mike Ashley’s Newcastle. A piracy issue between Saudi Arabia and BeIN Sports has now been resolved.

BeIN Sports had been barred from broadcasting in Saudi Arabia for four and a half years. But that issue has been resolved, which was a major issue.

Now, the Premier League are seemingly willing to ratify the £300million takeover. The Saudi Arabia PIF will fund a huge 80% of the deal.

Meanwhile, the Reuben Brothers, and Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners will supply 10% each. Staveley is the face of the takeover group.

Of course, Bruce’s future is now in doubt – given Newcastle will now have enormous funding. McCoist discussed the takeover, and Bruce’s future.

“It is exciting for Newcastle, and the fans. It’s all developed because of the piracy, it is amazing that,” McCoist said, when asked about the takeover.

“It’s hard, very hard,” McCoist added, on Bruce. “The one thing you can say about Brucey is that he is a gentleman, and he has done his very, very best.”

Does Bruce have a Newcastle future, as McCoist discusses takeover?

It is hard to see how Bruce will continue in his role as Newcastle manager if a takeover does go through. Staveley will want to make a statement.

A sporting director is perhaps needed just as much as a new manager. But ultimately, and unfortunately for Bruce, the main man is the gaffer.

Replacing Bruce will increase the momentum and the hype around Newcastle – with many fans frustrated with the Geordie boss.

Does Bruce have a future at Newcastle if a takeover goes through? Perhaps, but only until the Toon’s new owners identify and appoint someone new.
