Ally McCoist has told TalkSPORT that he believes Celtic captain Scott Brown still has another year left in him amid reports that the midfielder could join a new-look Aberdeen coaching set-up – and leave Parkhead.
Brown, 35, has not been as regular a fixture in the Celtic side as he has been in recent seasons during 2020-21 – as Rangers ended their pursuit of 10 in a row by winning their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 seasons.
Indeed, the 55-time Scotland international has been dropped at times for Ismaila Soro – and has now entered the last couple of months of his Celtic contract. Reports have emerged that he could continue playing at Aberdeen.
The Scottish Sun report it as though it is a done deal, though no confirmation has been made – with Brown expected to take on the role of a player-assistant. Rangers legend McCoist reacted to the reports, stating he can see a move.

“I can see it happening. It’s an interesting one because he was excellent and played really well I thought at the weekend,” McCoist told TalkSPORT – as per The Sun. “On that form, he could probably have another year at Celtic.
“I think – not having spoken to Scott – maybe now he fancies playing but at the same time moving into a coaching capacity. I can see that happening. I think it is a natural progression for Scott and his football career.
“But there is going to be vast, vast changes in the personnel at Celtic and maybe Scott feels the timing of this potential move to Aberdeen would be perfect. The timing? Only he could answer as to whether he thinks it is right.”

TBR’s view – Just look down south, assistant-player roles work
It is a growing trend and one that seemingly works down south. The surprise element is that Brown would be doing this in the red of Aberdeen and not the green and white at Celtic – but perhaps it is an apprenticeship for the future?
