Ally McCoist has told TalkSPORT (Monday, 09:25am) that he believes Rangers will sanction the sale of Alfredo Morelos if the club receive an offer as low as £12million – amid reported talks with French club Lille.

BBC Sport claim Rangers have held talks with Lille, who played in the 2019-20 Champions League. The Ligue 1 outfit will be desperate to bring in a striker as Nigeria international Victor Osimhen continues to be linked with a move.

Morelos scored 29 goals for Rangers last season, as well as laying on 10 assists. But issues remain, with his discipline problems resurfacing, failing to score a league goal after the turn of the year and yet to net against Celtic.

Rangers legend McCoist was asked about reported talks for Morelos, and he believes that Rangers will cash in on Morelos if the right offer is received. McCoist reckons that a bid of £12million, or £13million would be accepted.

“I’ll be very disappointed if they don’t get a replacement and good money,” McCoist said. “It is safe to say every player in Scotland has a price on their head. Some of his goals have been wonderful, but hasn’t scored against Celtic.

“I think Steven will accept an offer if it is the correct offer. You have to get cover in, and he’ll have that earmarked. He has set his heart on a move, if they get an offer of £12million or £13million they would accept it.”

TBR’s view – Rangers need replacement very soon

If Rangers are to sell Morelos, then they need to bring in a replacement for the Colombia international as soon as possible – with the Gers beginning their Scottish Premiership campaign on Saturday with a trip to Aberdeen.

The exit of Morelos needs to be replaced immediately, especially if he leaves this week. Not just a quick replacement, but one that can fire the Gers to the Scottish Premiership title and stop Celtic’s 10 in a row.
