Rangers picked up an important 4-2 win against Aberdeen last night. It was a rip-roaring contest but once again Steven Gerrard will be left aghast at his star striker Alfredo Morelos. After scoring two goals in the first-half, he went on to get sent off for the fourth time this season by kicking out at Dons defender Scott McKenna.
Ally McCoist, a former Rangers player and manager, was discussing the incident on the talkSPORT breakfast show this morning (07/02/2018; 08:53). He amusingly wondered if there was any point in Gerrard talking to Morelos about his discipline whilst also suggesting how important the Colombian is to Rangers.
“If I’m Steven Gerrard, I don’t think there’s any point (having a word with him).
“I’m putting myself, straight away, in Steven Gerrard’s shoes, he must be sitting there going ‘what am I going to do with this guy?’ Remember he scored two goals in the first-half. His second finish is superb.
“I that respect, he must be a little bit of a liability. But in my opinion, he’s their key player. He’s 100 per cent their key player.”
TBR’s View
Undoubtedly, the striker is a key man at Ibrox. His two goals last night took his tally to 22 goals this season.
But his ill-discipline, as McCoist’s laughter could not hide, is now becoming almost amusing.

He clearly plays on the edge, which has often earned him comparisons to Luis Suarez. Taking away that edge could see him be less effective at Ibrox.
But Rangers’ boss needs to stop the idiotic red cards he has been receiving. It is one thing to play with passion, it’s another to receive silly dismissals for off-the-ball incidents.
Kerb that temper and Rangers have an absolute star. But as McCoist states, it’s looking like an impossible job for Gerrard at the moment.
