Ally McCoist amazed by Thomas Partey strike in Arsenal win
Ally McCoist has told talkSPORT (broadcast on 16/1; 8:10) that the highlight of his weekend may have been the stunning strike from Thomas Partey which so nearly saw the Arsenal midfielder score a screamer in Sunday’s North London derby.
Partey, of course, got the ball rolling in their victory over Tottenham back in October with a brilliant goal from outside the box.
And he very nearly scored in the away fixture also. Arsenal were already 1-0 up when a Ryan Sessegnon header fell to Partey about 25 yards from goal.

The Ghanaian found himself in a lot of space. But rather than take a touch, he decided to rifle a thunderous volley towards Hugo Lloris. Thankfully for Spurs, the ball smashed into the post and away from danger.
It would have been a goal which perfectly summed up Arsenal’s half. They dominated throughout and ensured that Spurs could barely lay a glove on them.
And while Martin Odegaard would soon double the lead with a very good goal from outside the box, McCoist suggested to Stuart Pearce that he was more impressed by Partey’s effort.
“I’m going to say something, it might just be my highlight of the weekend, in an action-packed weekend,” he told talkSPORT.
“You know better than anybody, that technique to hit that, and he’s met it absolutely perfectly and it smashes off the upright. Wonderful.”
It would have certainly been a goal of the season contender had Partey managed to sneak his effort a fraction inside the post. It was an incredible strike which Lloris could only watch soar past him.
Partey has been superb for Arsenal this season. He brings a balance to the side that does allow Granit Xhaka and Odegaard to make an impact further up the pitch.
And one of the problems Mikel Arteta is yet to solve is how he replaces Partey when he is not there.
