Allardyce sends Leeds and West Ham warning over Matheus Pereira

West Brom manager, Sam Allardyce, has warned the likes of Leeds, West Ham, and Aston Villa that Matheus Pereira won’t be sold on the cheap this summer.

Pereira is thought to be a target for the likes of Leeds. While West Ham, Villa, and Leicester have all been credited with an interest in a report from The Express this week.

It is thought the Baggies will look to bring in around £30m for Pereira if they do sell. The little Brazilian has been the shining light for Albion this season, with some great goals and riveting attacking performances.

But speaking ahead of this weekend’s game, Baggies boss Sam Allardyce says there will be no ‘cherry picking’ as he insists nobody will leave for any less than the club values them at.

“There’ll always be someone saying ‘what cherry can we pick at West Brom. There are some cherries to pick but you won’t pick them cheap. There are a lot of them worth a lot of money,” Allardyce told the Express and Star.

“The emergence of Matheus Pereira is no shock to me. He has continued to try his very best to keep this club up. That goal against Arsenal, what does that tell you about him? But no cherry-picking, The club would only let them go if they get what they’re valued at.”

Pereira has hit double figures this season and proven himself, as Allardyce says. In all likelihood, he will move on this summer.

But with parachute payments and the money gained from promotion, Albion will not be desperate to sell. It could mean, then, that Leeds, West Ham, and others do indeed need to find the big bucks.

The money in the game now means if you are sensible when promoted, you can drive a good price if you do go down. Like Sheffield United, the Baggies haven’t gone mad and should now be in a good place to come back up.

Selling Pereira is probably a given but if they get £30m, then who will grumble.
