Allan Saint-Maximin sends heartfelt message to Steve Bruce after Newcastle exit

Allan Saint-Maximin has sent a touching tribute to Steve Bruce after Newcastle United confirmed the exit of their manager on Wednesday.

Bruce, 60, leaves the club after 97 games in charge. That is, after the new owners allowed him to remain in the dugout for his 1000th match.

He suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Tottenham, and has now lost his job. Multiple reports state that he will receive a pay off of around £8million.

Saint-Maximin, 24, has matured greatly under the guidance of Bruce since the Toon gaffer replaced Rafa Benitez in the summer of 2019.

Indeed, the best form of the Frenchman’s career has come under the influence of Bruce; Saint-Maximin posted a touching tribute on Twitter.

Saint-Maximin message to Bruce: Rare positive of Newcastle tenure

His tenure as Newcastle boss was criticised on a regular basis for a lack of tactical awareness, a negative style. But Saint-Maximin was a positive.

Bruce joined the club in the same summer as Saint-Maximin. A player with potential, the Frenchman lacked the end product and maturity needed.

But in the two and a bit years working under Bruce at Newcastle, Saint-Maximin has grown as a player – despite a focus on defensive football.

He is playing some of the best football of his life, and that is a rare positive that can be attributed to Bruce’s time in charge on Tyneside.
