Proposed new Newcastle United signing Allan Saint-Maximin has been spotted at the club’s training ground ahead of his protracted transfer.

The Nice winger has been linked with the Magpies for a while now, and France Football reported yesterday that an agreement had been reached between the two clubs.

A fee of 18 million euros (£16.4 million) has been reported, with add-ons on top as well, with Saint-Maximin is apparently all set to sign a six-year deal at St James’ Park.

He looks all set to become Newcastle’s second first-team signing of the summer, which has been a painstaking one after the departure of Rafa Benitez.

Newcastle need to accelerate their transfer business, with another striker and a defender also needed, but Saint-Maximin is a step in the right direction.

That said, the debate over whether he is a Steve Bruce signing is well worth having, given the lack of control Newcastle managers enjoy over the club’s transfer policy.

But alongside Miguel Almiron and Joelinton, Saint-Maximin should help Newcastle have more firepower going forward than Benitez had to work with, and goes some way to accounting for the departures of Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon.

Now, all that it seems there is left to do is get the deal officially signed off.
