A number of Newcastle United fans have welcomed the transfer report claiming Niklas Sule is all-but set to leave Bayern Munich next year.

The Magpies have been linked with the 26-year-old defender since the long-awaited takeover at St James’ Park.

Local outlet Newcastle World claimed in November that the Magpies and Sule’s representatives have held talks.

In the same month, BILD head of sport Christian Falk reported that the player is interested in the project at St James’ Park.

Now, Sky Germany has claimed that Sule’s exit from Bayern is “as good as sealed”.

The 6ft 5in colossus has been a star for his club since joining from Hoffenheim in 2017 for a reported £18million.

However, Sule reportedly feels undervalued by the Bundesliga champions.

This is despite his impressive performances over the last few years.

Sky Germany add that it will be “difficult or even impossible” for Sule to sign a new contract with Bayern.

Admittedly, the Germany international would be a tricky proposition for Newcastle to bring to St James’ Park.

A 26-year-old world-class defender, very much in his prime, boasting a trophy-laden CV, with an expiring contract.

Chances are there’ll be plenty of clubs challenging for titles and even for the Champions League after him.

Nonetheless, there’s been plenty of speculation linking Newcastle and Sule, so you never know.

And some Newcastle fans would certainly welcome him at St James’ Park:
