Tottenham Hotspur face PSV Eindhoven tonight in the Champions League and they will undoubtedly use this game as a scouting mission.
PSV have two top players who are both on Spurs’ radar in Steven Bergwijn and Hirving Lozano.
Bergwijn is wanted by Tottenham alongside a number of other clubs and he is one of Europe’s hottest prospects.
The 21-year-old winger already has four goals and five assists this season and is a full Netherlands international.
Spurs will be sure to keep a close eye on him if he is deemed fit. The youngster is currently a doubt for the game.
Lozano, 23, is also on Tottenham’s wishlist. The Mexico international caught the eye at the World Cup and has scored eight goals and picked up four assists this season.
But as well as checking on Bergwijn and Lozano, tonight’s game is the perfect opportunity to scout Jorrit Hendrix firsthand.
Spurs need a new central midfielder soon with Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama’s future uncertain.
And Hendrix is just the type of player who can improve Tottenham’s options, provided he can adjust to English football.
The 23-year-old is tenacious and tough-tackling and he would provide excellent protection for the Spurs defence.
But with lots of talent on the ball as well, the Dutchman is a well-rounded central midfielder.
Spurs need to keep their tabs on him tonight and judge how he shapes up against their own midfield as that will give some indication of how he might fare in England.
He could be the long-term solution to their central midfield problem.
