‘All day long’, ‘done nothing but improve’: Some Aston Villa fans want £1m man to start tonight

A number of Aston Villa fans hope Orjan Nyland starts for Dean Smith’s side tonight as the Premier League gets back under way after a three-month hiatus.

The 29-year-old was third choice at the start of the season but an impressive superb performance in the League Cup semi-final first-leg draw with Leicester City saw him thrust into the spotlight.

Although Villa brought Pepe Reina in at the start of the year following Tom Heaton’s season-ending injury, the Spaniard flattered to deceive in his last few appearances before English football was suspended.

Away at Leicester City, Reina’s error allowed Harvey Barnes to open the scoring en route to a 4-0 win,  and in Villa’s Premier League meeting before that, Reina was again at fault at Southampton.

By contrast, Nyland put in a superb display in the League Cup final against Manchester City, and even though Smith has declared the slate wiped clean for his players (Birmingham Mail), many Villa fans would rather the Norwegian given the nod tonight Sheffield United.
