'All credit to him': Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says Arsenal have an 'incredible' talent in their ranks

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has praised Gabriel Martinelli for his “incredible” display for the Gunners on Sunday.

The 19-year-old may have struggled for game time under Mikel Arteta, but he showed what he’s capable of after being handed a start against Newcastle.

Deployed on the left flank, Martinelli was a threat from the first minute, giving Jacob Murphy a torrid time throughout the 90 minutes.

The Brazilian also contributed an exquisite assist for Aubameyang at the back post, the striker volleying home his first goal since March 6.

And speaking after the 2-0 victory, Aubameyang was quick to praise his teammate as he gave his thoughts on the game.

“We needed this one I think,” he is quoted by BBC Sport (16:21) as saying. “After a few games without winning it was important ahead of our game on Thursday.

“It was a great goal. [Martinelli] did incredible work today and he gave me this assist. All credit to him. I was really happy to be back.

“This was the idea for the team. I think we did a great job as a team and we pressed them. We played our game and won.”

Martinelli is a young talent of the highest calibre who has hit the ground running in English football and regularly gets Arsenal fans calling for his inclusion in the starting XI – rightly so.

And those calls will be growing ever louder as Arsenal prepare for the biggest match of the season, the Europa League semi-final second leg clash with Villarreal at the Emirates on Thursday.
