Alisson’s wordless response to what Leeds player has posted on IG, he seems impressed
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has lauded Leeds United counterpart Illan Meslier on Instagram.
The Whites stopper has made a huge name for himself since arriving at Elland Road from Lorient in 2019.
Meslier initially joined Leeds on loan before signing permanently in summer 2020 for a reported £5million.
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa was so impressed that he made him the youngest first-choice keeper in the Premier League.
And Meslier hasn’t disappointed, developing into a keeper worthy of being first-choice for a top-flight team.
The 21-year-old has made the second most amount of saves in the Premier League this season with 71.
This is behind only Manchester United’s David de Gea, who has 84.
In 2021, Meslier also became the youngest keeper to 10 Premier League clean sheets. He then became the quickest to 50 appearances.
Tottenham and France star Hugo Lloris sees Meslier as a potential contender to replace him in Didier Deschamps’ side.
He is quoted by RMC Sport – via Leeds Live – as saying: “There’s Illan Meslier, who is doing very nice things in the Premier League.
“He’s a young goalkeeper. but when you look at what he’s doing at his age, in such a tough and intense league, it shows all his potential.”
And now, Liverpool’s Alisson has become the latest to recognise Meslier’s credentials.
On Instagram, the Reds star posted a ‘fire’ emoji on the Leeds man’s latest Insta post, a highlights reel captioned ‘back to business’:
Alisson has barely put a foot wrong for Liverpool since joining in 2018 for a then world-record fee for a goalkeeper.
The 29-year-old has helped Jurgen Klopp’s side win the Premier League, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Supercup.
And last season, he scored a crucial goal in the race for a Champions League place, a dramatic last-minute winner against West Brom.
Liverpool rewarded Alisson’s efforts with a new long-term contract in August.
According to the Liverpool Echo, his new deal at Anfield will take him to the summer of 2027.
