Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has told Fox Sports in Brazil that Inter Milan striker Gabigol has an enormous future and that he has the potential to become a “great player”, as he continues to shine on loan at Flamengo.
It comes just days after the 23-year-old told The Sun that he dreams of a move to the Premier League, and would love to play alongside Roberto Firmino at Liverpool – who he has already teamed up with in the Brazil national team.
“Firmino is great, I really admire him,” Gabigol told The Sun. “It would be a pleasure to play with him. Maybe we could team up for Brazil in the future and Liverpool is a team that everyone wants to play for.”
It is believed Inter could rake in £20million if Flamengo complete a permanent deal for the striker this month, with the Brazilian season now at an end. But other teams have become interested, given his explosive form for Flamengo.
Alisson was asked about Gabigol, and the Liverpool goalkeeper was full of praise for the Flamengo loanee – claiming he has all it takes to become a “great player”.
“I believe that if Gabigol continues with this goal-scoring mentality, every striker has to have it, score goals every game, make a difference in his team, if he does the same thing he is doing here at Flamengo, he will become a great player,” Alisson said.
TBR’s view – Should Liverpool sign Brazilian striker Gabigol?
Divock Origi is excellent back-up to Firmino and has scored some crucial goals over the past 12 months – including two goals in the semi-final against Barcelona and one in the final against Tottenham. He recently scored a brace against Everton.
But Origi may not want to be a back-up striker for the rest of his career and the Belgian is likely to move on eventually. So, should Liverpool bring in a striker that can rival Firmino? One who is young enough to continue his rise at Anfield?
Gabigol is an excellent striker, but Liverpool should only consider the Brazilian is Origi does eventually leave.
