Liverpool goalkeeper has saluted the performance of teammate Fabinho during Sunday’s win over Chelsea, during an interview with the club’s official website.
The Brazilian enforcer was forced to drop into central defence following injuries to both Joe Gomez and Joel Matip leading up to the game.
Fabinho dealt with the threat of Chelsea striker Timo Werner incredibly well and Alisson has heaped praise on his performance.
The 27-year-old stopper proved his worth too, saving a late penalty from Jorginho to ensure Liverpool didn’t endure a nervy finish to the game.
Alisson was keen to play down his role in the win, instead choosing to rave about teammate Fabinho.
He told the club’s official website: “He was a monster! Unbelieavable, but it’s what I expect of him.
“If it’s a surprise for you I would be surprised because he’s a top player. Anywhere he played, from number six or centre-back, he always does his best and his quality permits him to play in different positions.
“He’s smart and I congratulate him. In my opinion he was the man of the match.”
Fabinho arrived at Liverpool from Monaco costing £43.7 million back in 2018 (BBC Sport).
He has helped the Reds win the Champions League and Premier League during his two years at Anfield and is a big player for the club.
Likewise, Alisson has made Liverpool a more solid force defensively proving a quality signing.
On Sunday’s performance, the Reds still look like the team to beat as they blew Chelsea away in the second half.
The versatile player earns £100,000-a-week on Merseyside and with Thiago now arriving at the club competition for places has heated up.
On Sunday’s showing, Fabinho certainly won’t the Klopp’s fall guy.
