A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the report in The Mirror claiming the Reds have pulled the plug on a prospective deal for Timo Werner.
The Anfield side has been heavily linked with the RB Leipzig striker – who has been in superb form this season, netting 30 goals and registering 12 assists – for a number of months.
Since joining Leipzig from Stuttgart in the summer of 2016, Werner has claimed an impressive 91 goals and 39 assists from 153 competitive appearances, as well as winning 29 Germany caps with 11 goals scored in the process (Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old has previously described Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as “the best coach in the world”, was flattered by reported interest in him from the Premier League leaders, and believes the Reds’ style of play would suit him (Viasport).
However, in these difficult times for the football industry, Liverpool are seemingly not prepared to go above £30million for Werner, while Leipzig will not negotiate a price tag below his £50million contract release, The Mirror has claimed.
As a result, the outlet goes on to say that the Reds – who are reportedly facing at least a £100million shortfall in income over the next 12 months – have withdrawn completely from any talks over the striker, and will not pursue his signature.
Quite a few Liverpool fans are unperturbed, however, recalling an article by the same outlet from 2018 in which it was suggested that Alisson Becker to Anfield was a non-starter, though others were more concerned, given the financial uncertainty in the football industry at present.
