Alfredo Morelos has proven he’s more than just a goalscorer at Rangers

Rangers centre-forward Alfredo Morelos has become renowned for being a prolific goalscorer so far at Ibrox, but there is much more to him than meets the eye.

The Colombia international has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, which takes his overall tally in a Gers shirt to 34 goals in just 70 appearances.

He’s the first-choice striker in Steven Gerrard’s squad and the manager should really consider him the club’s talisman.

Morelos can be a little rash at times, but he wears his heart on his sleeve and he provides much more than just goals.

Rangers dug in against Villarreal on Thursday night in the Europa League group stages to draw 0-0 and were up against it when Daniel Candieas was sent off before half-time.

Morelos may have been starved of genuine goalscoring opportunities, but that didn’t prevent him playing a vital role for the team.

The 22-year-old played a selfish role in attack where he ran the channels and showed an incredible work-rate to try keep the Villarreal defenders occupied.

He always seems to leave it all out on the pitch and that makes him a favourable individual around Ibrox.

Morelos is going to be judged on goals at the end of the day and he’s more than keeping up his share of the bargain.

But it’s important not to overlook his overall contribution to the team and he must be a manager’s dream with his energy in the final third.
