Ever since Aston Villa pinched Steven Gerrard from Rangers this week, talk has been gathering pace about who the Villans might look to sign from Ibrox.
Villa have already got Gerrard and his coaching team on board. And with January just around the corner, it’s likely that the board will back Gerrard with new signings if he feels he needs them. Naturally, certain Rangers players are likely to be linked.

However, according to former Celtic star, Kris Commons, not many in the Rangers squad could do a job for Aston Villa. And writing for the Daily Mail, Commons suggested that even though Alfredo Morelos is one who could succeed, even he isn’t a certainty.
“Villa need goals. Alfredo Morelos might go and get you the 15 you need and tear it apart down there,” Commons writes.
“But what you always detect with Villa is the togetherness and team spirit. Would Morelos be guaranteed to help the atmosphere in the dressing room? Gerrard knows he’s high-maintenance. It would be a big gamble. And he’s also not playing particularly well at the moment.
“I just don’t think there’s an absolute stand-out in the Rangers squad who would make Villa better.”
Names such as James Tavernier and Ryan Kent are two of the more obvious players to be linked. Glen Kamara is another. However, Commons even pours scour on those three in his article.
TBR’s View: Alfredo Morelos from Rangers to Aston Villa won’t happen
While Gerrard knows Morelos well, as Commons says, there is a big risk in signing him. It’s also a big step up into the Premier League, with better defenders as well.
Of course, Gerrard knows and trusts some that Rangers group. Players like Kamara or Tavernier might be realistic. Yes, they’d be more like squad players at Villa, but they’ll do a job.
Time will tell. But Morelos to Aston Villa is not one that is likely to happen at this moment in time.
