Alfredo Morelos has told Rangers’ official website that the love from the fans was a major factor behind signing a new deal, which sees him remain at Ibrox until the summer of 2023.
Morelos, 22, has signed a new four-year deal with the Glasgow club. He had been linked with a move away from the club in the last couple of weeks.
But Morelos has put an end to the rumours surrounding his future after a wonderful season that has seen him score 28 goals. He did so, by signing a new deal at the club, and he stated that the fans were the reason for his new deal.
“It did not take me long to agree this extension because my career has progressed quicker and better than I could have expected when I joined this great club,” Morelos said.
“I have come to realise just how special Rangers is and what it means to so many people around the world. Also, I feel a strong connection with the fans and they have made me feel special.
“They have been terrific for me and always back me which makes me want to score for them and then celebrate with them. I want to score many more goals for them, Rangers, and the manager, who has helped me so much, before this season ends.”
This is an enormous deal for Rangers – either financially, or on the pitch. It is win win for the Ibrox club.
Either, Morelos remains at Rangers for many years and becomes a Teddy Bear legend, helping them finally topple Celtic. He certainly has the quality and at 22, he is only going to get better.
Or, financially Rangers are going to benefit. That is because a club will have to pay through the nose to convince Rangers to sell the striker – given that he is no danger of leaving Ibrox with a contract until 2023. Great business from the Gers.
