Alfie Mawson must surely keep his spot in the Fulham defence after Liverpool display

Fulham emerged from Anfield on Sunday with a very respectable 2-0 defeat, a small moral victory considering the Reds’ high-scoring tendencies.

The Whites looked surprisingly solid at the centre of defence during the first half, with summer signing Alfie Mawson leading the charge with an assured display.

The English centre-half must surely keep his place in the Fulham starting line-up, as the Cottagers may be finally seeing the form that many expected out of Mawson.

The former Swansea defender arrived over the summer but missed the start of the season through injury. But when Mawson returned, his performances were clearly off the pace, with an abysmal showing against Watford resulting in the centre-half getting hauled off at half-time.

Yet in his first start since September, Mawson excelled against Liverpool and was a strong presence at the back, winning numerous aerial duels and contributing key clearances.

Fulham supporters will be delighted the multi-million pound signing appears to be fully recovered from his knee injury and putting his poor early-season form behind him.

As Alfie Mawson completes his return to his dominant defensive form, Slavisa Jokanovic must keep the 24-year-old in the Fulham starting line-up to improve the Whites’ backline.
