After spending last season on loan at both Port Vale and Plymouth Argyle, Tottenham Hotspur youngster Alfie Devine has a new challenge this season.

Devine is on loan at KVC Westerlo in Belgium, where he is also joined by exciting Tottenham youngster Luka Vuskovic.

20-year-old Devine has made four appearances in the Jupiler Pro League thus far, playing as both an attacking midfielder and slightly deeper in a central role.

Tottenham rejected several loan-to-buy offers for Devine before allowing him to head to Belgium.

There’s a feeling in N17 that the youngster could still make it at Spurs, a player who has always been thought to have considerable potential.

Alfie Devine says Tottenham have already been visiting him in Westerlo

That being said, Devine has just been speaking about how Spurs have been keeping checks on him with Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad.

The Tottenham youngster spoke about Andy Scoulding’s visit to Westerlo and also the conversations he’s had with Ange Postecoglou.

Devine said: “Andy Scoulding was here in Westerlo recently. He is the performance manager at Spurs. After the match we had a long chat. It is nice that they follow you so closely.

“That involvement is motivating. Scoulding is also a professional, he has already been at Rangers, Valencia, Olympiakos and Liverpool so he knows what he is talking about.

“If I need anything, they are always there at Spurs. I also had good conversations with coach Ange Postecoglou.

“I went on a training camp with the first team and I still feel involved with the group. You never know what the future will bring, but that way you stay in the picture of course.”

Djed Spence signs new Tottenham contract

Of course, one of the big success stories of youngsters at Tottenham of late has been Djed Spence.

For the whole world it seemed as if Spence would be leaving the club this summer, that was before he changed the discourse around his attitude in pre-season.

Spence has now signed a new contract with Tottenham, a player who Postecoglou may lean on both sides of defence across the season.

It still seems like a mistake that Postecoglou didn’t include Spence in his Europa League squad – the perfect competition for him to get minutes.

But ultimately fans will trust their manager’s call, who will be determined to improve results in north London once Spurs resume Premier League football this weekend.
