Alfie Devine has posted on Instagram after Tottenham Hotspur confirmed they had completed the signing of the 15-year-old midfielder from Wigan Athletic – after the Latics had entered administration.
England Under-16 international Devine is only the second player to be sold by Wigan since they entered administration. Paul Cook, who is expected to leave, saw his side relegated after a 12-point deduction.
Jenson Weir joined Brighton earlier this month, and the cash raised for Devine – believed to be £500,000 as per the Mail – will be used to help balance the books and pay wages at the end of July.
Already breaking into the England youth set up thanks to his performances for Wigan’s under-18 side, Devine may have caught Tottenham’s eye with his efforts in the FA Youth Cup this season – even beating Spurs.
Wigan reached the sixth round before eventually losing 2-1 to Manchester United – a match in which Devine played 70 minutes. Now, he is expected to link up with Ryan Mason’s Under-18 side at Spurs.
Devine had signed a new long-term contract at Wigan in June, but the former Liverpool academy player is now set for pastures new in north London with Tottenham. He posted on Instagram after a move was confirmed.
