Liverpool are leading the charge in the Premier League for a second successive title, and are yet to fully unleash £125m signing Alexander Isak – but there is one player who could make them even better.
The defending champions are looking formidable so far this season, boasting a 100% record and already sitting five points ahead of closest rivals Arsenal after just five games.
Isak is yet to reach full fitness, and another big-money signing in Florian Wirtz is still to get off the mark. Hugo Ekitike is looking promising, while the summer contract extensions of Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk have been crucial to Liverpool’s early form.

However, according to midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, they could improve further with the dream signing of his international teammate Lionel Messi.
Alexis Mac Allister shares what Inter Miami star Lionel Messi thinks about Liverpool
Speaking on TNT Sports, Mac Allister was interviewed by a Liverpool fan, and it wasn’t long before Messi was brought into the conversation.
“It’s a pleasure to play alongside him. He’s the best player I’ve ever seen,” said Mac Allister. “And I don’t think that’s going to change. I’m so happy we won a World Cup together. That’s not an easy thing. But I really admire him on and off the pitch.”
Asked if the pair ever discuss Liverpool together, Mac Allister replied: “Yeah, we had a conversation about Liverpool, about some players and he’s someone that that watches a lot of football.
“Even his friend [Luis] Suarez was here. So yeah, of course he knows about it and we had a few chats. “Hopefully one day [he will join Liverpool], but I think he will have to learn English a little bit better!”
Alexis Mac Allister says the main difference between playing for Liverpool and Argentina
Playing for the Premier League champions, World champions and Copa America champions gives Mac Allister a unique position in world football as a key member of the Liverpool and Argentina systems.

However, he is clear when asked what the main difference is between playing for his club and country, even with the wealth of talent alongside him at Anfield.
When that question was put to him, Mac Allister replied: “That here we don’t have Messi!”
With 39 Argentina caps to Mac Allister’s name, 29 have been shared with Messi, including six starts on the way to the 2022 World Cup success and five in the 2024 Copa America triumph.
