Alexis Mac Allister has now praised a young talent who actually rejected a move to Liverpool.
The Liverpool No.10 is yet to link up with Arne Slot at the AXA Training Centre for pre-season after spending his summer winning the Copa America with Argentina, although he did find time to hail a youngster who once snubbed the Reds.
So, who did Alexis Mac Allister praise? Let’s take a look…
Alexis Mac Allister praises Valentin Carboni
The Argentina international has now hailed Valentin Carboni for the seamless manner in which the 19-year-old adapted to life at the Copa America this summer, his first taste of a major tournament.
Mac Allister’s comments come after Goal claimed that the teenager actually rejected an offer from Liverpool to join Inter Milan in a £260,000 move back in 2020.
The attacker’s progress has been so impressive that Inter Milan now value him at €40m (£33.7m).
Mac Allister told AFA Estudio: “He hasn’t played much, but in training he has shown what he’s worth, I think he has earned the respect of the team.
“He and (Alejandro) Garnacho are two players who can give a lot to Argentina. They excite us a lot. We have a lot of hope for their future. We can’t burden them with too many expectations at the moment, but in the future they will give us a lot.”

Carboni earned his call-up to Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina squad after enjoying a breakthrough 2023/24 campaign on loan at Monza, where he scored two goals and provided four assists in 31 Serie A appearances.
Liverpool should try again
Liverpool must get in touch with Inter Milan to ask about Carboni, as the South American wonderkid only looks set to become more expensive from this point onwards.
As aforesaid, the Argentine stood out on loan at Monza last term, even playing a huge role in getting the club’s season back on track after three Serie A games without a win in December.

Carboni stepped up to score once and also provide two assists in a vital 3-2 win over Frosinone at the start of January, which helped Monza win three of the next seven outings in Serie A.

The attacking midfielder – who Goal compared to Paulo Dybala in their aforementioned report – is a real talent, and if Inter Milan have no plans to use him anytime soon, Slot should give Simone Inzaghi a phone call.
