Alexandre Lacazette compared Alex Iwobi to Maicon on Instagram following his display in Everton’s win over Fulham on Sunday.
The Toffees got back to winning ways after three defeats before the international break. Carlo Ancelotti’s men won 3-2 at Craven Cottage.
The game saw Ancelotti spring something of a surprise at wing-back. Iwobi was named on the right of a back five. And it proved to be something of an inspired decision.
The Nigeria international is a player who has come in for criticism during his time at Goodison Park. Of course, that surely stems from the fee that took him to Merseyside. BBC Sport reports that he could cost up to £34 million.
The 50,000-a-week player (via Spotrac) had struggled to live up to expectations. But perhaps Sunday’s result hints that he is another member of Everton’s squad who has the potential to develop significantly under Ancelotti.
Iwobi has been more impressive this season. And his performance against Scott Parker’s men highlights how valuable he could prove to be for Everton in a variety of positions.
